1. Grey Poupon’s The Society of Good Taste
Are you tasteful enough to be Facebook friends with Grey Poupon? While other brands are pleading with anyone and everyone to like them on Facebook, Grey Poupon has declared that they only want to be friends with a distinguished few. Grey Poupon has decided to embrace its upper crust image, as well as social media, in a new campaign that revolves around a Facebook app that analyzes a user’s profile for “good taste.” If the app finds your profile to be up to standards, you’re granted membership to The Society of Good Taste and the privilege to “like” Grey Poupon on Facebook. This campaign proves that it is possible for brands to attract new fans to their Facebook page without having to entice them with a coupon or an offer for a free sample.
2. Elle Magazine is letting its Facebook fans control its next photo shoot
Ever wonder what it’s like to be the creative director at a fashion magazine? Wonder no more. Elleis giving its Facebook fans the opportunity to collaborate with the magazine on a fashion shoot. Last week, fans voted on the theme of the shoot, and this week they had the chance to vote on the model, as well as the clothes. Elle will livestream the shoot on Facebook on the 21st, and the final product will appear in the December issue, which will be enhanced with augmented reality technology, which is popping up in more and more places.
3. Flipboard introduces a new way to shop
Social news reader app Flipboard introduced “the first shoppable clothing catalog” this week. Flipboard users can navigate to “The New Levi’s Collection” section of the app, where they can browse and buy items all from within Flipboard. In addition to showcasing the new clothes, Flipboard will also feature photos, videos, and articles by Levi’s that can be shared to Facebook and Twitter.
4. Amazon’s New In-App Feature
The next time you play Angry Birds on your Kindle Fire, you might just be able to buy a Red Bird doll while you’re at it. Amazon is now letting app developers sell physical goods inside of their games. It’s first partnership is with Activision, who will be selling toys inside their popular children’s game, Skylanders. Leveraging its capabilities as an e-commerce retailer may be Amazon’s best way to attract developers to its platform and be competitive against Google and Apple.
5. Topshop will livestream its show at London Fashion Week
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York is over, but London Fashion Week is just getting started. One of the collections we’re most excited to see is from Topshop. The clothing retailer will be debuting a completely interactive livestream of their show. Not only will viewers at home be able to see the same things that people sitting in the front row will see at the same time, but they will also be able to click on the video as it’s playing and purchase items they like, as well as take screenshots and record video clips that can be instantly shared to Facebook. This continues the trend of previously exclusive events becoming more accessible thanks to social media.
