The number of personal online banking clients in China reached 272 million in 2010 and that of corporate online banking clients reached 5.7 million, according to the recently-released “Report on the Service Improvement of China’s Banking Industry for 2010.”

China’s online population reached 457 million by the end of 2010. The establishment and expansion of online banking service channels has become a major part of financial services in the information era.

China’s banking industry paid particular attention to the development of electronic service channels in 2010. Along with the fast growth in the number of online banking clients, the number of personal and business telephone banking clients reached 336 million and 3.8 million respectively. The number of personal and business mobile phone banking clients reached 73 million and 12,200 respectively.

Apart from the development of electronic service channels, the banking industry also accelerated the construction of physical channels in 2010. The total number of financial service outlets of China’s banking industry reached 194,900 at the end of 2010, including 1,514 newly-built outlets.

In 2010, the banking industry not only optimized the distribution of financial service outlets but also made efforts to promote the transformation of the financial service outlets. The industry renovated and upgraded a total of 19,302 financial service outlets into standardized outlets.
