There has been speculation over the past few months of whether Facebook will release a “want” button to boost its e-commerce efforts (dubbed f-commerce.) This week, Facebook began testing the “want” button with seven retailers, including Pottery Barn and Michael Kors, in the form of collections.

As the product is still in testing, users may see a “want” or “collect” button within the collections. The special buttons allow users to add images of clothing, home furnishings and other retail products to an online wish list within Facebook. This could potentially lead to purchases being made without leaving Facebook or by pushing directly to the retailer’s online stores.

According to Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, 41 percent of adult Internet users share or repost photos and videos they have found online. It is easy to understand, then, why photo posts receive the most likes and most shares on Facebook. Brands must keep these things in mind when creating content not only for Facebook but for all social networks. Text posts are good at generating conversation on a brand’s page, but if the goal is to increase reach, visually-appealing photo posts are the best way to engage current fans and attract new ones.
