Despite a storm of criticism over the way it has handled the broadcasting of the Olympic Games, NBC has predicted that it will break even once the sporting extravaganza has ended.
After spending $1bn to acquire the US broadcast rights, NBC had at one time expected to post losses of up to $20m. But NBC Universal chief executive Steve Burke told analysts in an earnings call that his company had sold more than $1bn of ads so far – easily beating the record $850m sold during the Beijing Olympics four years ago.
